Weekly Update – 25th May
As you will be aware we are celebrating our 50th Anniversary of the new church building opening at St Nicholas. There are many events throughout the year to mark the celebration. This includes an exhibition of photographs of events that have happened in the church and the wider community over the last 50 years.
Whilst looking through my old photographs, I came across the one here. It was taken at Folkestone and it is old. It dates back to when cross-channel ferries sailed from Folkestone – so early 80s?
The opening of the new church building was not just an end or a completion but was a starting point. The photograph is case in point as it shows a group of young people who were part of the “Silver Cross Youth Club” that was started in about 1979 as part of a growing church and parish community.
The exhibition of photographs, which we hope will include some from the organisations that meet in our church halls, will run until early July and our celebration week.
On Sunday 6th July we will be joined by Bishop Rose who is coming to lead a celebration communion service. This will be followed by a “Bring and Share” lunch. Then later in the afternoon we will have a special “Oasis in the Afternoon”.
On Sunday 13th July our week of celebration and the exhibition of photographs will come to a close with an 8am Communion service and then at 10am a special “Oasis Café”, which will start looking ahead to the next 50 years and all the things we will start and grow in the years ahead.
All are welcome! During the week of celebration our intention is to welcome as many people as possible to at least one of the events we have planned. We hope and pray that they will find the church building to be a space to reflect and look back with celebration and be encouraged and inspired to look forward to a joyful future.
