Weekly Update – 16th March
That’s Handy?
Have you ever looked at your hands and thought, aren’t they amazing? Well, they certainly are and here are some facts about our hands. Each hand contains, 27 bones, 29 joints, over a 100 ligaments and tendons, 34 muscles, 48 nerves and 30 arteries. Also did you know you don’t have muscles in your fingers? They use a system of pulleys and tendons that are being worked by the muscles in your palms. Amazing! Who knew that there was such a marvel of engineering at the end of each of our arms?
We sang a worship song in the service last Sunday called “In Christ Alone”. I love this song, the factual honesty of the lyrics, emotion in the words and the eternity that became available to us through the cross. There’s a line in it about hands, about God’s hands. The line goes like this,
“No power of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from His hand”
And the verse from the Bible in the New Testament that reflects this line can be found in John 10: 28, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand”
God’s hands are a safe place to be and here’s a few thoughts about God’s hands;
- The Lord is holding you in the palm of His hands. Know that you are safe and secure in Him.
- Nothing and no one can take you from Him. He is holding you tight.
- In the hollow of His hand can be found security so be at peace and rest easy in the security that God’s hand brings to your life.
- Our future is held in His hands, we are secure in Him so as we travel through our lives, hold God’s hand, reach out to Him and let Him hold you and lead you onward.
Finally, just to leave you with a thought about Isaiah 49:16;
“See I have engraved you on the palm of my hands”.
For me the word “engraved” suggest some level of permanency.
If you engraved something it takes more effort than just writing and lasts longer. Jesus used His hands to touch lives, to heal brokenness and sickness and to hold and guide those who came to Him. They were also the hands that were wounded on the cross for us.
I’m no theologian and don’t know for sure whether Jesus still has His wounds or scars in Heaven, but we do know that when He rose from the dead, He still had them as He showed them to His disciples and invited Thomas to touch them.
When Jesus looks at His hands in Heaven, does He see our names, does He see us in the scars that the cross left behind, that constant reminder of what it cost God to love us. I like to imagine that He does.
Have a blessful week
