Rev Chris’s Weekly Update – 16/10
Weekly update – 16th October 2022
Dear all,
The Harvest season has now gone and as mentioned last week, the next step along this part of the year will be Remembrance Sunday on 13th November and, as usual, our service that Sunday will have an Act of Remembrance. I also mentioned last week that the previous Sunday, the 6th at 2.30pm, there will be a commemoration service in St Nicholas Church at which the names of lost loved ones will be read out – if you would like to add a name to that list, please let me know.
These events lead us towards Advent and Christmas. The Church year comes to an end on Sunday 20th November with what is called ‘Christ the King Sunday’. As a feast day it is a relative newcomer having been instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI to set aside a time in the liturgical calendar to emphasis the kingship of Christ over all things.
The following Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent, the start of the new church year, and the countdown to Christmas. This gives me the opportunity to flag up our annual Christmas Market, which is a great community event that will be taking place on Saturday 3rd December (10.30-14.30). Come and join us in this event by either organising a stall, helping at one of our stalls or just coming along to enjoy the occasion – there will be refreshments available at our café in the church. If you would like more information about helping in some way, or having a stall, please contact Sarah on 01622 297307 or email Kim at stnicschristmasmarket@outlook.com.
Blessings,
Rev Chris
