Rev Chris Weekly Update – 28/08

Dear all,

Every year on the second Saturday of September the Friends of Kent Churches organize the Kent section of a national ‘Ride & Stride’ event to raise funds to help save historic places of worship for future generations.

This year it will take place on Saturday 10th September, between 10am and 6pm, and participants can take the opportunity to either walk, or cycle, around a route of their own making (as short or as long as they wish) and visit as many churches as possible on that route. Most churches, of various denominations, are open and many will have volunteers on the door to greet such visitors with refreshments.

Participants are asked to obtain sponsorship and there are forms at the back of church if you wish to take part or contact me and I will make sure you get one. Funds raised are shared between your parish church and Friends of Kent Churches.

This isn’t all about money because it is also a great opportunity to visit many unique and historic church buildings, see some beautiful countryside and take some exercise. I usually cycle into the Kent countryside and take great delight in wandering around wonderful buildings and talking with those who look after them.

You can also participate by being one of those people greeting visitors, providing them with some refreshment, and talking to them about your church and how much it means to you. If you would like to take part in this way, then let me know as there are available time slots for volunteers across the day.

Happy Ride & Stride,

Rev Chris
