Rev Chris Weekly Update 06/11

Dear all,

At the end of this month, we will begin the countdown to Christmas as we enter Advent and please note that we are marking that with a special Advent Taize service, in St Nicholas Church, on Sunday 27th November at 5pm (see accompanying flier). Jackie will be leading this meditative service of refection as we take time to consider the significance of the coming season.

Please do take time to look at details of forthcoming services and events as there is a lot coming up in the run up to Christmas with the following;

  • 29th November – Advent Taize @ 5pm
  • 3rd December – Christmas Market, 10.30am – 2.30pm
  • 10th December – Messy Church (Messy Christmas) @ 3pm
  • 11th December – Carol Service at 5pm
  • Christmas Eve – Crib Services @ 3pm & 4.30pm and Midnight Mass @ 11.30pm
  • Christmas Day – Christmas morning services at 8am & 10am

Regarding other events, it is good to have many of the local schools coming into the church for their Christmas services and there are also various concerts taking place across the period. It will clearly be a busy but rewarding time.

I am also pleased to announce the return of the Christmas Rectory Suppers that took place each year pre-Covid. We will be hosting these over the three evenings of Tuesday 6th, Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th December at 7pm. Sarah and I will host you in the Rectory and provide a two-course dinner and drinks – all you need to do is let us know that you would like to come (and any dietary requirements). It is on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis as there is a limit as to how many we can accommodate each evening – if you would like to come (be assured that I do not do the cooking!) then either phone us on 01622 297307 or email rev.chris@hotmail.co.uk or sarahlavender59@hotmail.co.uk.

With the rising cost of heating, we are investigating whether St Nicholas Church can be a Warm Welcome Space across the winter period, as the building is open most days. We have applied for funding that would enable us to keep the church heating on during part/all of the week and are waiting to hear if we have been successful. I shall keep you informed.

Blessing,

Rev Chris
