Rev Chris Update – 17th July

Dear all,

Phew, it’s hot!! Spare a thought for our daughter and her friends who are in Finsbury Park this Sunday for a George Ezra concert as temperatures are set to exceed 35 degrees. Seriously though, please do take care in these conditions. You may have seen the notice outside church or on Facebook;

It really is cooler in church so if you are passing, please go in and have some peace and quiet to contemplate life.

With that thought of contemplation in mind it is interesting that the set bible reading for our church services this week is from Luke’s gospel and involves Jesus visiting a couple of ladies called Mary & Martha – it goes like this;

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

What is it that distracts you from what is important?

Blessings,

Rev Chris

p.s. I am away ‘contemplating’ next week so the next update will be in a couple of weeks’ time.
