‘Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.’ Matthew 28:19-20

Lord, as we are reminded of Jesus ascension, may we take to heart His final words to Hid disciples, equally valid for us and for all those who follow Jesus in every age. May we be inspired to spread Your gospel in word and deed, in tune to Your will for each of us. Let us do so joyfully with wisdom and Grace.

‘But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.’ Acts 1: 8

Thank you , Father, that you know we can’t achieve Your purpose in our own strength. Thank you that You made provision for us by sending Your Holy Spirit to give us Your authority and guidance here on earth. Help us, Lord, not to take for granted the blessings we have, may we always acknowledge that You are the fount of all that is good in our lives. Help us , Father, to be witnesses at home, at work, at school, in all the places we find ourselves each day.

‘I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in me and I am in You.’

Thank you for this prayer of Jesus, we are all included in His words. His wish is that Your followers are one, are united in His love. Each one of us is precious, may we never lose sight of that or of the enormous love which brought Jesus down to dwell amongst us that we may be reunited with You through His death.

As we remember Jesus ascension, we give You the honour, praise and glory for all You have done for us. Thank you that Jesus completed the task You set before Him, that He is now ascended back to heaven and that we, His followers have the authority to continue to make disciples. May we fulfill our task joyfully.
