Prayers – Christmas 2021

PRAYERS

DIOCESE Heavenly father, we join with the angels, in songs of thanksgiving: thank you for coming to dwell in our midst. In your coming amongst us you showed us how to be human in your vulnerability as an infant. May we truly learn how to depend on one another, how to trust one another and to give ourselves to one another, so that together we may grow in the knowledge of your love.

Renew in us the sense of wonder and curiosity that we too, like the Shepherds and the wise men, may never tire in seeking to find you. And in acknowledgement of being in your presence, fill us with a deep joy overflowing so that we may gather others into your presence. May the peace of the Christ child be upon us and dwell within us. Amen.

‘I bring you tidings of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the town of David, a Saviour has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord.’ Luke 2: 10-11

Praise be to our God, for He is good. Thank you, Lord, for coming from heaven to destroy sin and death and to give us eternal life. Lord, we set our hearts anew on You this Christmas. You are trustworthy, faithful and the giver of hope, joy, love and peace. We ask that You will fill us with Your gifts, may we take time to remember You in the midst of all the celebrations. Help us to stay focused on You when it feels as though the world around us is spinning out of control.

We pray, Lord, for those who are struggling to rejoice because of circumstances around them. We ask that they too may experience Your hope, peace and love. You came for all mankind, please, Lord, may all be reminded that You are there for all who call out to You. As Your birth is celebrated around the world, we pray that those who have not encountered Jesus may do so this year.

Thank you for all those who know and love You as Saviour, we pray that You will draw us especially close to Your heart of love. In a world that is growing darker, may the light of Your truth shine through us to a world who needs Jesus.

‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favour rests.’ Luke 2:14
