Prayers – 5th December

DIOCESE Second Sunday of Advent

Heavenly Father,

As we await the rising of your Son,

The bright Morning Star in the East,

Gather your children from East and West,

Put off the darkness of mourning,

Shade downcast eyes with your right hand,

That we might see the brightness of His coming,

And be filled with joyful expectation.

Raise us up to be a faithful people,

A royal priesthood and a holy nation,

Eagerly awaiting the coming King,

Living lives of justice, peace and truth,

And proclaiming his righteousness,

Until the day He comes in glory,

That we might receive our due reward,

Which is our fellowship with you,

And all your Saints in glory,

For ever, and ever,

Amen.

‘Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.’ Isaiah 12:2

We pray, Father, that You will stir up in us the desire to spread Your love to all those with whom we come into contact during these weeks. Help us to willingly accept Your call on our lives to share the message of Jesus, especially now when the world is preparing to celebrate Christmas. Give us boldness to share the privilege of knowing You as our Saviour.

‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ John 14:6

We pray, Lord, that this Christmas season be a time of preparing the way for the Lord in our lives, may we take time to look at ourselves, account for our sins and turn with renewed passion to Jesus. Give us the grace to change our plans to fit with Your plans.

We lift up to You the world with all the fear, anxiety, mistrust, envy, hatred, inequality, poverty. You are Almighty, powerful, just. Wake up those in authority to live in the light, to let go of greed. We pray that peace will be built on understanding not weapons. Strengthen us to work for change in the world, give us courage to shout for justice. Let us live as people of light. Bring Your Kingdom into being Lord, You are not willing that any should perish, please open eyes, hearts and minds of all living in darkness to see Jesus.

‘ For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.’ John 3:16
