DIOCESE Praying Together: for the Ordination of Deacons & Priests

At the two ordination services today, the Archbishop or

Bishop will say to those who are about to be ordained

deacon or priest, “You cannot bear the weight of this calling

in your own strength, but only by the grace and power of

God. Pray therefore that your heart may daily be enlarged

and your understanding of the Scriptures enlightened. Pray

earnestly for the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Please join with those being ordained today and with their

families and supporters by praying for the Holy Spirit to

enlarge their hearts and to give them the gifts of grace they

need for the new ministry they are embarking on. Lord of

the Church, come among us today and may your grace and

power rest on those who are ordained into your service.

PRAYERS

‘Your love, O Lord, reaches to the Heavens Your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, Your justice like the great deep.’ Psalm36:5-6

We bring You our thanks and praise for being so far above anything we can imagine. You are eternal, incorruptible, faithful and just. In a world so lacking in morality, we look to You for the truth. You show us how the world could and will be. We await the future with trust and faith that You will accomplish all You promise.

‘All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, correcting and training in righteousness, that the man of God may be equipped for every good work.’ 2 Timothy 3:16-17

We pray, Father, that through Your Holy Spirit, we may understand what You are saying to us. May we take on board all that Your word teaches, even those things we find difficult. We pray for all those who teach, preach and evangelise, that they will be filled with Your Spirit and are equipped for the task before them. We pray especially for Rev Chris and his team as they lead St. Nic’s, help them to listen closely to You and to support each other. Thank you for each one of them.

‘I will meditate on Your precepts and fix my eyes on Your ways.’ Psalm 119:15

Help us, Lord, to learn to meditate on Your word, to put aside the busyness and  hustle of life and spend time listening to You. We confess, Lord, that we have lost the simplicity of life, we have lost sight of You in Britain. We pray for our young people facing changes in school, college, work. Help us to reach out to them showing them Your way, Your plans. We know that You have the best for us in Your heart. Give us the wisdom to seek Your way.

‘Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.’  Phil. 4:8

We lift up to You, Father, all those to whom these words are unknown. We pray that they may meet Jesus and discover His way…so much better than anything else. We pray also that we may teach our minds to think in line with Your will.
