PRAYERS

DIOCESE CREATION CARE

Creator God, sustainer of all things, You have entrusted to us the care of your world. In the face of the planet’s distress, Rescue us from the paralysis of complacency and defeatism; Teach us to blend prayer and activism, hope and determination, That your Church might truly be good news to all creation. Amen.

Caring for creation involves a healthy mix of prayer and action. In this Creation season, we invite you to make a ‘prayerful change’ – to choose just one small lifestyle change which will benefit the planet, then to pause and pray for a moment each time you put that change into practice. As world leaders gather for the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, we invite you to join us in making the first two weeks of November a time of focused prayer for the environment. Visit the Keep Praying page on our website for plenty of creative ways you and your church can pray and take action: https://www.canterburydiocese.org/keep-praying

‘Now to Him who is able to carry out His purpose and do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think, infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes or dreams, according to His power that is at work in us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Jesus Christ throughout all generations.’ Eph. 3:10

Thank You that You are able to accomplish so much more than we can ever imagine, we give You our praise, worship and we place our hope in You for this world.

The world is full of things which we don’t understand, Lord, teach us to trust in Your power, wisdom and goodness, You, the Almighty One who rules our world. We pray for all those looking for answers at the Climate Change Conference, we ask that they will make responsible decisions to take care of our world, to enable some of the harm we have caused to be remedied.  Give us, Lord, a vision of the world as it could be with Your love guiding us. Help us to live together with tolerance and respect, forgive us for our treatment of those who think, act or appear different to us. We pray that through Your Holy Spirit we will have the courage and inspiration to bring justice and peace to all people around us.

‘You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord for ever, for the Lord is the rock eternal.’ Isaiah 26:3-4

Thank you for that promise, Lord. Keep our hearts at peace, Lord, enable us to bring Your peace to all those situations we meet where anxiety, fear and distress are ruling.

‘Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.’ 1 John 5:5
