DIOCESE Praying Together: Easter

Lord of life, this is mine: the existence we take for granted is as frail as a dream and dissolves in a heartbeat. In my head, Lord, is a procession of faces of those I knew. Many thought that they led boring and inconsequential lives but theirs was a pivotal role in a living story. Their feet trod an indelible imprint upon this world. Details recalled of their lives are so small, but precious.

Lord of life, this is yours: “It is finished” This is mine: What matters, Lord, is love. For love of me, and of mine, Lord, you suffered and you died. But this was not the end. For, in accepting death; you gave us life. “It is finished”, Lord. The winter is past, and, finally, flowers appear on the earth. The earth of my soul and the soul of mine. Amen.

‘ This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.’ Psalm 118:24

Lord, we give you thanks for each new day, each one full of possibilities. We pray, Lord, that You will give us a fresh start with your Spirit of peace, joy and love. Be with us as we embark on each new day with it’s challenges, opportunities, surprises, disappointments, we know that whatever happens, You are there with us , enabling us to act with grace and truth as you equip us. May nothing separate us from you today, we ask, Lord, that we walk not according to our feelings, but according to your Word.

‘ Whether you turn to the left or the right, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘ This is the way, walk in it.”   Isaiah 30:21

We pray, Father, that we will see clearly the steps we have to take to keep close to you, that we will be aware of your voice leading, guiding and encouraging us. We pray especially as we go through the next weeks, we will make the right decisions as a church to keep close, healthy and united as we make preparations  for our new Minister. We acknowledge, Father, that You are the head, we are the body, we need only to follow you. Thank you that You know the future, You know how long this phase of our church life will last. Thank you that You know the plans you have for us.

We ask, Father, for your mercy on all those who feel hopeless in situations beyond their control. You are the hope of the world, give those suffering the endurance to carry on knowing that you never leave them. For those who don’t know you, Lord, we pray for their eyes to be opened to see you in all your glory and majesty.

We pray for your church worldwide. May we all seek to live according to your Word, not to the desires of our hearts, the policies of the world, the shouting of those who seek to change what You have decreed is Holy. Give us, Lord, the courage to stand firm, not to be intimidated or browbeaten by fine argument. You , Lord, have the words of eternal life……our steadfast truth.
