Praying together: First Sunday of Advent
Loving God, As we enter into the season of Advent, we thank you for your patience and grace towards us. We pray for those who find themselves waiting at this timewaiting for news, waiting for change, waiting for things to get better. As we await the coming of your Son, help our hearts to be open to receive your gifts both obvious and hidden. May our waiting prepare us to enter into the mystery of the incarnation and draw closer to you. Amen. |

‘I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness’ John 12: 46
Thank You, Father, for giving us Jesus, for leading us out of darkness into light through His life and death. As we journey through Advent, we give You thanks and praise for that light. Help us, Lord, to remain in Your light, show us the distractions which block that light in our lives. May we live seeking Your presence daily. Forgive us for forgetting You in the busyness of this season. Without You, Lord, we would have nothing to celebrate.
‘The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.’ Psalm 28:7
We pray for Your people wherever they may be. We ask that You would be especially close to those who are in need. You have promised to be near to all who call on You and we join with them in asking for comfort and peace when in trouble.
‘The word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.’ Hebrews 4:12
Please, Lord, help us to spread the good news of Jesus through all the events of Advent. Open the eyes and hearts of all who pass through church during this time, let Your words satisfy the longing for meaning in their lives. We pray that we might edge closer to Your Kingdom coming here on earth.
‘Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the skies.’ Psalm 36:5
