DIOCESE Praying Together: For the ministry of our Diocese

Almighty God, You give us new life, hope and opportunities each day; in the power of your Holy Spirit, help us to find new ways to serve our communities and share your loving presence with those around us.

Be with all those who live, work and serve in our diocese; expand our imaginations, bless our ministry as your people, and empower us to be both creative and faithful witnesses of your truth, for the sake of him who came among us and serves us, your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

‘I will praise the Lord who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I shall never be shaken.’ Psalm 16:7-8

Lord, we are so thankful for Your presence in our lives, may we have written in our hearts Your words to us so that we won’t be discouraged or shaken.

And over all these virtues, put on love, which binds them together in perfect unity.’ Colossians 3:14

As Your people, we bring to You the brokenness of our world. We pray for those who suffer from evil, hatred, racism, persecution. We also lift to You those who perpetrate the sins and violently hurt the innocent. We pray for their eyes to be opened that they may see Your love shining in the darkness.

We ask, Lord, that we may be an example of Your unity. Forgive us for the times when we have ignored or spoken slightingly of others, for the times when our personal preferences have caused division. Give us the urge to show Your love and to speak up for justice wherever we are able. May we stand firm on the truth of Your gospel and be dedicated to Your word.

We pray for the people of Afghanistan as they suffer from the damage of the earthquake. Bring them to safety, keep the aid workers from danger, be with those who have lost family, friends, all they have. We know, Lord, that most of the nation is opposed to Your truth, but may there be hope coming from this dreadful disaster. Please, Lord, have compassion on the lost.

We continue to pray for all those fleeing from home, whatever the reason. We have no idea what it’s like to suffer famine, persecution, torture. Give us the Grace to act with love, tolerance and Grace not hatred or apathy. May we grow to be more like Jesus day by day. He dismissed no one who sought Him.

‘It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness at night.’ Psalm 92: 1-2 ( ESV)
