DIOCESE Listening and Discerning: For those seeking warmth this winter

Lord, we pray for all who will seek shelter and warmth this winter, and for all those places around our diocese where a welcome will be offered. We pray for your blessing on warm spaces, on open churches and community buildings, and on everyone who will share and receive hospitality and food. Give us open hearts and listening ears to learn from one another and to rejoice in your

gifts of friendship, love and service.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

‘God is our refuge and our strength, an ever present help in trouble. therefore, we will not fear though the earth give way and the mountain fall into the sea, though it’s waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.’ psalm 46;1-2

We pray, Lord, that we may take these words to heart as we hear constantly news of natural disasters, war, famine, man’s aggression towards other men. Lord, we feel so powerless to make a difference, but we know that all things are within Your power, so we bring to you all the innocent who have been caught up in things beyond their control. We ask You, Father, to enable those who have authority to bring comfort and relief where they can. Give them strength, wisdom, power and open doors to make a difference. Give peace to all those who know You, let them recognise that You are with them in all circumstances.

”Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work in us….’ Ephesians 3:20

Lord, You know the things that are in our hearts that we barely dare to hope for. We bring them to you, Lord, those we know who are sick, anxious, lonely; the situations which we feel are outside our control; the worries to which we have no answers. We trust these things to You, Lord knowing that You can do so much more than we dare hope for. You are our hope and we trust in You.

‘Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.’ Hebrews 10:23

Thank you, Lord, that we are never abandoned or alone, we are able to call on you at any time. May we hold onto Your truth, Your word, knowing that it will sustain, guide and nourish us, giving us wisdom in the midst of all that is happening around us. You alone are our refuge and shield.

We pray for all those in Israel and Palestine amid the escalating violence, for the innocent caught up in the horror of war. We pray for all the civilians, for those taken hostage, may they come to know Your saving grace and hope. We pray for those in leadership in Gaza and Israel, may they be touched by a spirit of compassion and peace and find the right path to end this war.

As our eyes have been on the middle east, we remember again Ukraine as fresh Russian offensives are launched, please bring success to those who are trying to bring about peace talks.

‘The Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise Him.’   Exodus 15:2
