Prayers 20/03

PRAYERS

DIOCESE We pray for those who are living in poverty, people who are finding it difficult to pay for their everyday essential needs. We pray particularly at this time when food costs have risen, and fuel prices are expected to surge beyond our previous expectations. We ask your protection on those who this will affect the most; those who already struggle to meet their needs. As we think about meeting their needs, we pray for food banks, that they too will have resources to continue to support those who find themselves without food. Lord have mercy on those who are suffering and bring them close to you.

‘My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.’  John 15:12

Thank you, Lord, for your example to us, for the great love You have shown us. Help us to love those we meet, not just family and friends, but those we meet on our daily journey. Especially now when there are so many fleeing for their lives, people who have lost everything, who are frightened, bewildered, helpless.

‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ Matthew 22: 39

Lord, who is our neighbour?  May we learn to be a voice of encouragement to all who we encounter, help us to be a friendly caring voice to the hurting and lonely. As we live in the knowledge that You love us unconditionally, let us spread that love to others.. open our eyes to see the need around us and to act not turn away.

‘A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.’ Proverbs 11:25

Thank you , Lord, that You give us the strength we need to do Your work. We know that You will refresh us when we are weary, we don’t need to be anxious. Help us to trust in You more fully day by day.

‘A fool gives vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.’ Proverbs 29: 10

We pray for the Ukraine, bring peace to that land. Please grant wisdom, courage and strength to President Zelensky, may he make the right decisions in this crisis. Please, Lord, raise up peacemakers  who can defuse this situation so lives can be saved.

‘Those who know your name will trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.’ Psalm 9:10
