PRAYERS
DIOCESE | Fourth Sunday of Advent
On this holy day, as we anticipate the gift of your Son Jesus Christ to all humanity, help us to pause.. to remember the journey of Mary and Joseph and to reflect on the journey we have been on this Advent. Guide us to humbly receive the gift of this Sabbath day, to pause.. in wonder at this moment in time.. in expectation of the gift that lies ahead of us.. Give peace to our hearts this day as we prepare to receive the gift of your Son Jesus Christ. In His precious name we pray, Amen. ‘My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I shall never be shaken.‘ Psalm 62: 1-2
Help us, Lord, to lean on You, to put our trust in Your words in these days. We are beset on all sides with troubling news, with uncertainty, fear, confusion. We ask, Father, for Your peace in our hearts. Help us to take captive every negative thought and to rejoice in celebrating Jesus birth.
‘Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.’ Psalm 62:8
Thank you, Lord, for Your listening ear, never closed or out of reach. We pray for all those who bring Your love and compassion to the lonely, the isolated and the forgotten, especially at this time of year. Please renew their energy, give them strength and encouragement to reach out to the lost… Your hands, feet and voice here on earth.
Thank you for the joy we have in joining together to worship You through the words we sing, the words we read, the fellowship with each other. Thank You for Your church and for all who lead, inspire and make sacrifices to lead Your people. Bless them in their work.
We pray again for all those living in trouble spots around the world. We pray for the leaders to have a change of heart, to encounter Jesus. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus so long ago, we pray that Your people everywhere will be able to join together in peace to give thanks for our Saviour.
‘May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face to shine upon us; may Your ways be known upon the earth, Your salvation among all nations.’ Psalm 67:1-2
