DIOCESE Listening and Discerning: Climate Change

Creator God, we see the consequences of climate change around us, the heatwaves, droughts, and floods across the globe. Help us to minimise our carbon emissions and move away from our dependence on fossil fuels. We pray that alternative and renewable forms of energy are developed quickly. We pray for global effort and your guidance in seeking solutions to the climate crisis.

‘Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.’ Psalm 100:3-4

Thank you, Lord, for giving us access to You, for caring for us in every situation. We can truly say that You are our shepherd and we give You thanks and praise for Your steadfast love.

‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.’ Isaiah 55: 8-9

Lord, despite what we see around us, help us to focus on what really matters….that Your way is the only way, everything You allow is for our good. You see the whole picture. We pray, Lord, that You will give us grace to rest in Your presence, to understand that Your thinking is different to ours. You are aware of all that happens, You are alongside us in every situation. Lord, may we understand that we have nothing to fear when You are in control of our future.

‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God’ Phil :4:6

Lord, we bring before You all those people and things for which we are anxious. We pray for those who are sick whether in mind, body or spirit, we ask that You bring Your healing and peace into their lives. Deal gently with them and comfort them.

We pray for King Charles and his family, dealing with grief alongside taking up the reigns of Monarchy. May they find solace in Your presence and strength to rule wisely.

We bring before you all world leaders; our government struggling to make policies which will make life easier for all those facing hardship; the countries at war, especially as winter approaches and conditions become harsher. Let those who are able look for a solution to form lasting peace. Please, Lord, give Your wisdom and discernment to all those in authority in the church, in politics, in humanitarian organisations.

‘Praise the Lord, all His works, everywhere in His dominion.’ Psalm 103:22

Lord, let all the earth come to worship at Your throne that peace may reign
