‘Blessing of the bags’

Many of us feel that September is a ‘back to work’ month – even if we have not actually been away in August.   It certainly can feel like going back to ‘the normal rhythms of life’ whether we go to school or work, return to volunteering, or start  looking after grandchildren once again.  We would like to mark this in our service on 30 August this year by asking those at school or college to bring their school / college bags, back packs or laptops.  Others might like to bring a bag that symbolises what they will be returning to in September – it could be knitting, a tool box, or just a bag you take with you when you go to help others.  As part of the service we will bless all the bags – and you as you return again to the  ‘normal rhythm of life’ this September.
