Weekly Update – 8th November
This coming week, many of us around the country will stand silent for two minutes, commemorating the service and sacrifice of members of the armed forces and their families during the World Wars. This Sunday, we will be having an Act of Remembrance following our Cafe Church service.
For the past 8 months, we have been following the Alpha course which has reintroduced the basics of Christian faith. Going forward during Cafe Church, we will be looking at prayer; types of prayer, how to pray, why we pray and what prayer can do.
On this theme, when we think of Remembrance Sunday, we are reminded of the power of prayer in association with the ‘Miracle of Dunkirk’. May 1940 saw almost 350,000 allied troops trapped with nowhere to flee but into the English Channel. King George VI called for a National Day of Prayer on Sunday 26th May and the nation responded unreservedly.
Come on Sunday to hear more!
Churchill and his War Cabinet had believed they were only able to rescue 30,000 men, but achieved 10 times that number. The name ‘Miracle of Dunkirk’ feels well deserved in this circumstance. Prayer wasn’t wielded by experts with special training, it was wielded by millions of ordinary people.
