Weekly Update – 16th August

RIDE & STRIDE: for Churches

You may have heard mention, or seen posters, about Ride & Stride. An event that takes place on the second Saturday of September each year, across the country.

But what is it?

It’s an opportunity

An opportunity to visit many churches across the Deanery, the Diocese, the County or wider.

And whilst doing so you have the chance to raise money (by way of sponsorship) for your local church (that would be us, St Nicholas, Allington!) and a wider charity (here in Kent it’s the Friends of Kent Churches). In 2025 Kent’s Ride & Stride raised over £152,000.

You can do as many or as few churches as you like or are able. You can cycle (Ride!), walk (Stride!), take the bus, canoe, ride a horse – it’s really up to you.

Churches are open 10-6pm, so plenty of time to visit churches and chapels not seen before, to look around and enjoy the refreshments on offer (we’ll be providing Morning Coffee & Cake and Afternoon Tea).

Sponsorship Forms and further information (list of churches open, suggested routes) are available at www.kentrideandstride.co.uk or come and speak to me (Jenny) and I’ll help the best I can.

This really is a worthwhile cause; we ourselves have benefitted from grants given by Friends of Kent Churches (they’ve recently contributed to the repairs that had to be undertaken on the roof over the Vestry/Office/Toilets which failed spectacularly during all the rain we had during the winter (can you remember rain??).

If you aren’t able to join in yourselves, how about sponsoring someone who is, or donating a cake/scones to our refreshments on offer.

Please let us know if you’re going to take part so that we can support.
