19th April – Weekly Update
“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.” (Acts 2.46).
The Bible does not include much about formal business meetings of the early believers, although we do get a sense from the Gospels that the apostles planned and discussed matters together. The account in Acts 2.42-47, verse 46 above especially, suggests a sense of the early Christians coming together in a form of organisation.
So, a reminder that we have the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) on Sunday 17th May at 11.30am (after the church service) to be precise. I realise that this is a month away but please put the date in your diaries. All members of the congregation are invited to attend.
As well as receive reports on the church activities over the last 12 months at the APCM we also elect people to serve on the Parochial Church Council and the Deanery Synod. We have two spaces to be filled on the PCC, plus three vacancies to serve on the Maidstone Deanery Synod.
The PCC is an important part of church life as it provides an opportunity to consider what is being done and most importantly what we need to be doing. The PCC provides an essential focus on our worship, mission, pastoral and social activities, together with the maintenance of church buildings and finances.
The Deanery Synod is formed of members of the churches in the Maidstone Deanery. They meet to discuss, share and collaborate on common issues with the aim of reaching out and spreading the Gospel across the Deanery.
Please consider if you are able to stand for election to join the PCC or Deanery Synod. If you would like more information on the PCC and Deanery Synod or would like to put yourself forward for election then please speak to me or Jenny or Rev Claude.
One of the preparations for the APCM is a review of the Electoral Roll. This is a list of people who worship at St Nicholas and who can vote at the APCM. If you are not on the Electoral Roll please consider joining. There are forms in the church lobby to be completed if you would like to join. If you are already on the Electoral Roll there is nothing more that is needed.
Other than to come to the APCM on the 17th May!
