Weekly Update – 14th September

Amazing Feet!

As a police officer of over 24 years service, a while ago, I hung up my handcuffs and

qualified as a lecturer and trainer of police officers. I’m still a constable but just train others

now to get out there and keep the people of Kent safe.

One of the things I always tell my students is, “never take your boots off as you never

know when you need them, when you might need to run somewhere!”

So I want to think about feet! What does the Bible say about feet! To help

you think this through for your faith walk, I’ve got three questions for you.

Question 1 – have you got your shoes on?

In Ephesians 6 v 15 it tells us to make sure our feet, “are fitted with the

readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” So in other words, have

you got your shoes on ready? Are we ready to go and tell people about Jesus and the

message of the cross? Are we prepared to answer if someone asks us, “Why? Why do you

love God and believe in Jesus?”. Lets make sure we are! Lets get into our Bibles and get

ready to tell people. You might be the first and only person who ever tells another about

Jesus and shares that good news with them. Don’t be scared, be ready!

Question 2 – What are you standing on?

In 1 Corinthians 3 v 11 the Bible tells us, “For no one can lay any foundation other than the

one already laid, which is Jesus Christ”. There’s our starting place. The starting place for

anything is always Jesus. In Matthew 7 v 25, Jesus is telling the parable of the wise and

foolish house builders. The foolish man built on the sand and as soon as bad weather

came along, the house collapsed but the wise man’s house, built on the rock stood firm.

Jesus isn’t teaching about architecture and building regulations, it’s a metaphor, a picture

where he’s asking, what are you building your life on? Is our life built on Jesus where it is a

good foundation to keep living our best lives, as best as we can? Or is He just somewhere

down our list of priorities? In Psalm 31 v 3 it says “Since you are my rock and my fortress,

for the sake of your name lead and guide me”. Make sure your feet are on God”s firm

foundation!

Question 3 – Where are you going?

Where are you going to? Where are your metaphorical feet taking you? Is it in the right

direction, God’s direction?

In Matthew 7 v 14, “Jesus says this, “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads

to life, and only a few find it.” Where are you going? Is the path you’re walking on a narrow

path that needs faithfulness and commitment to God to keep on walking on or are you

distracted to other pathways for your life? Are you just thinking about where you are going

with God, when you have time?

God wants us to be wholly focussed on Him and the route our lives take, with Him

alongside us. God is not an afterthought! He must always be front and centre. Is that

journey easy, walking in the right direction? No, not at all. The daily task of working out

your salvation, staying on the path that God is leading, is a difficult one that challenges us

and the struggles that we overcome and work through are what makes us better.

Check in with your spiritual feet, make sure you’ve got your shoes on, you’re standing on the right foundation and going in the right direction.

Have a blessful week,

Jackie
