Prayers 18/12

DIOCESE Advent Wonder: Fourth Sunday of Advent

‘They made known all that had been told them about this child; and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them.’ (Luke 2:17-18 NRSV)

Look …

As you look at the picture, what do you notice?

Reflect …

Call to mind a moment when you were told some good news. Whether the moment was recent or a long time ago, pause to give thanks.

Pray …

We wonder – For a moment, the veil between heaven and earth was flung aside and glory-light flooded through.
For a moment, the last and the least carried the most important news of all time.
For a moment, the words ‘peace ‘and ‘good will’ were on everyone’s lips.
In this moment, we marvel again at the wonder of redemption.

Amen.

‘This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it., Psalm 16:11

Lord, as we get caught up in the hustle & bustle of Christmas, focussed on food, presents, shopping and endless lists, help us to find moments of peace; time to reconnect with You, quietly preparing our hearts to celebrate the long ago birth of Your Son Jesus.

We give You our thanks for all the blessings we receive, make us grateful for all the positives in our lives. Let us each be content to be the person You created us to be, not striving to emulate those we see as more important.

We give You our thanks for all the people in our lives, those who bless & guide us, and those to whom we can be a blessing. Please, Lord, show us those who feel lonely, forgotten or sidelined so that we may show them Your love in a positive, practical way.

We pray for all families this Christmas, giving thanks for those with vibrant, healthy relationships. We lift up to you those families where relationships are fractured, where there is pain. We ask, Lord, that in Your mercy You will show a way forward to heal & restore those relationships.

We pray for all those in distress through war or natural disasters, be close to them, let Your light shine in their lives. Bring aid where it’s most needed, help us to fight injustice where possible in whatever way we can. Let us not be bystanders but give us the courage to speak out.

‘Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.’ Lamentations 3:22-23

Lord, we know that You are faithful. You have promised to hear our prayer. We ask that those to whom Christmas is a commercial venture to have a moment of insight to sense Your great love for all of u. A gift freely given.
